Food & Wine

Six years after the first planting of grape vines in the Adelaide Hills in 1839, Australia's first wine export was sent to England.  Today we are acknowledged internationally for our distinctive premium wines, together with our equally highly acclaimed food and local produce.

With one of Australia's best cool climate wine regions, we have more than sixty wineries with cellar doors and tasting centres that often bring together their wines and local produce.

Cheeses from award winning Woodside Cheese Wrights and Udder Delights are now a big part of the Adelaide Hills' food experience and features at most cellar doors. Learn more about food and the process and stories behind them, be hands-on at one of the Adelaide Hills cooking schools and cheese-making classes.

Driving through the Adelaide Hills also provides the opportunity to stop off and handpick freshly ripening strawberries, apples and cherries. Indulge yourself also with chocolates, another fast growing local industry kicked off by the success of Melba's Chocolate and Confectionery Factory at Woodside. Stock up at local weekend farmers' markets featuring fresh and seasonal produce. Try our boutique micro-breweries with their all-grain European influenced beers.

If your preference is for dining out, the Adelaide Hills has something for everyone. Whether it's fine dining, or café style or pub dining, the best of our local produce is featured, together with our wonderful local wines.
