Celebrate Refugee Week 2016 with Freedom Stories

Refugee Week, this year to be held Sunday 19 to 25 June, is Australia's peak annual period to inform about and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society.

As a Refugee Welcome Zone, Adelaide Hills Council is keen to recognise this important week and will be doing so through the screening of Freedom Stories in Gumeracha and Aldgate.

An inspirational and uplifting documentary, Freedom Stories is a ground breaking documentary by filmmaker Steve Thomas, exploring the achievements and struggles of former 'boat people'. Now Australian citizens, some were only children when they found themselves in indefinite mandatory detention in remote places such as Woomera or Nauru. It has taken astonishing resilience to rebuild their lives.

Freedom Stories are those of ordinary people who found themselves caught up in the extraordinary consequences of political brinkmanship. It is time for their voices to be heard.
