The Local Government Professionals Australia SA Leadership Excellence Awards Program recognises outstanding achievement, innovation and excellence in local government.
This year, the Adelaide Hills Council has received two nominations for the LGPASA Excellence Award: for Sport and Recreation Coordinator, Renee O'Connor and the Lobethal Bushland Park Bushfire Project Initiative, lead by Council's biodiversity team. Both have been nominated for their ongoing efforts and passion for the Adelaide Hills community.
Adelaide Hills Mayor Dr Jan-Claire Wisdom is ecstatic about Council's recognition in this year's LGSA Excellence Awards.
"I am proud to have the efforts of sport and recreation and biodiversity recognised through this Awards program," Jan-Claire said.
"Their dedication and enthusiasm to the Adelaide Hills is outstanding and has been especially important as we recover and build resilience in the wake of bushfires and COVID-19."
"Renee O'Connor's commitment to advancement and innovation in the Adelaide Hills' sports and recreation infrastructure has contributed to major development and upgrades happening around the region, including the replacement of the Lobethal Bushland Park playground."
"She also displays ongoing leadership and support to our community as they recover from the devastating impacts of the Cudlee Creek and Cherry Garden bushfires."
"The work the Biodiversity Team has done for the Lobethal Bushland Park Recovery Project Initiative has been critical in ensuring the ongoing care and restoration of native flora and fauna devastated by the fire."
"The project has provided the community with a special place to celebrate the rejuvenation and resilience of our land."
The awards ceremony will take place at the end of May, with winners announced on the night.
