Department of Housing and Development aerial survey
The Government of South Australia is collaborating with Geoscience Australia to undertake an airborne gravity survey over Adelaide and surrounding regional areas in October 2024. This information is crucial for construction and development activities, as well as environmental risk analysis (i.e. flooding, sea level rises and bushfire risk).
The aerial survey will start in our council area in October 2024 and take approximately 8 weeks to complete.
How the survey will work:
- A fixed-wing plane will fly along straight paths 5km apart through public airspace.
- The plane will fly at a height no lower than 300m in built-up urban areas and 150m in rural areas.
- Noise levels on the ground will be less than the sound of a passing motorbike and will last for about the same amount of time.
- The plane and on-board instruments will not affect people or animals as they do not emit any signals.
- There will not be any aerial photography.
