Local Government is an important part of the democratic framework of Australia. The community elect their council representatives every four years, with the next Council Election to be held in November 2026.

Results of supplementary election for the office of Mayor

Adelaide Hills Council is pleased to advise that Nathan Daniell has formally been elected Mayor following confirmation of results from the supplementary election.

Mr Daniell has served as a councillor since 2014, as Deputy Mayor for over 6 years, and has held the position of Acting Mayor since March 2025.

He was elected with 4179 votes after preferences ahead of Andrew Stratford who received 2758 votes.

“I feel honoured to have been elected Mayor of the Adelaide Hills Council, and I thank our community for their support and for the trust they have placed in me,” Mayor Daniell said.

“I look forward to working closely with elected members, Council staff and our community to support the long-term wellbeing of our people, our places and our environment.”

The position of Deputy Mayor will be voted on by elected members at the next Council meeting on 24 February 2026.

You can view the full results at the Electoral Commissioner of South Australia website. The Electoral Commission manages all supplementary elections to ensure they are fair, transparent and run according to law.

The Supplementary Election was held in February 2026 to fill the vacancy for Mayor of Adelaide Hills Council. Supplementary elections are held between regular election cycles when a position becomes vacant. They help ensure the Council remains fully represented and can continue to serve the community effectively.
