Adelaide Hills to give FOGO a GO GO in waste trial

The Adelaide Hills Council Food Organic and Garden Organics (FOGO) trial is set to begin on Tuesday 24 October, across three locations in the Woodside and Lenswood areas.

The 12-month trial will expand the green FOGO bin service and move the blue landfill waste service to a fortnightly collection to reduce landfill waste.

We want to look after our environment and provide our residents with a great waste service. Research shows that providing a more frequent FOGO service results in a significant reduction of waste to landfill.

Currently, almost 40% of waste found in landfill bins is compostable material. This trial will enable participating residents to utilise the more frequent FOGO service to have a significant positive impact on the environment and sustainability of our region.

— Acting Mayor, Nathan Daniell

By moving to an expanded green FOGO bin service Council hope to provide a more convenient way for residents to dispose of their food scraps and compostable materials and divert food waste away from landfill.

The change in service will also provide additional capacity for residents to dispose of their garden organics and in doing so, help to minimise bushfire risk.

Adelaide Hills Council is committed to continuously improving sustainability and reducing carbon emissions, this trial takes us one step closer.

This week, residents within the trial sites have been delivered a welcome pack and we look forward to hearing from them throughout this trial.

— Chief Executive Officer, Greg Georgopoulos
