Amy Gillett Pathway extension update
We are excited to share progress on the Amy Gillett Bikeway extension, a key recreational project that is both enhancing our community's outdoor spaces and preserving our local railway heritage.
As part of the expansion, we are restoring historic stone and concrete culverts along the route, ensuring that our rich railway history is respected while we add an additional 5.7 km to the existing bikeway.
Construction is moving forward as planned, with the first 2 km of asphalt laid this week. Drainage works are nearly complete, with only the section from Mullers Road to Birdwood left to finish.
This expansion will provide an incredible recreational experience, diverting riders from the path that follows the main road to explore the picturesque farmlands of the Adelaide Hills.
The Adelaide Hills Council committed to build Stage Four of the Amy Gillett Bikeway, extending it from Mount Torrens to Birdwood. With generous funding from both the Federal and State Governments, contributing $2.6 million each, along with a Council contribution of $500,000, the total funding for this project amounts to $5.7 million.
This expansion will extend the bikeway from its current endpoint at Oval Road in Mount Torrens to the intersection with Onkaparinga Valley Road in Birdwood, creating even more opportunities for active travel and recreation in our beautiful region.
