Are You Emergency Ready?
Know someone living with a disability? Make sure they're ready for an emergency as part of the International Day of People with Disability on Tuesday 3 December.
Living with a disability or additional health needs means planning is vital to staying safe during emergencies like bushfires, blackouts, and earthquakes.
The Hills Emergency Resilience Disability Network, made up of people with disability and carers in the Adelaide Hills, is dedicated to improving emergency outcomes through education and advocacy.
The group has developed the Emergency Ready flyer, a simple and practical guide to help people prepare for emergencies. Key steps include planning for:
- Staying safe at home.
- Leaving early for safety.
- Being away from home for at least 72 hours.
The Peer Leaders are also raising awareness, sharing resources, and advocating for inclusive emergency planning across the community.
To celebrate International Day of People with Disability, Adelaide Hills Council libraries will have the new Emergency Ready flyer and other helpful resources for bushfire season displayed at information stands from Tuesday 3 – 10 December. (After 10 December, you can collect copies from reception desk at any Adelaide Hills Council library)
Prefer online access? You can also download the Emergency Ready flyer from the People with Disability page on Adelaide Hills Council website or see below.
