Help those in need this festive season: Support The Hut’s Festive Food Drive
The festive season is a time for giving, and The Hut Community Centre is once again hosting its annual Festive Food Drive to support individuals and families in need.
Research shows that approximately 11% of the population experiences food insecurity. In the Adelaide Hills, this equates to about 4,370 people struggling to access sufficient food. As The Hut engages with the local community, it’s clear there is a growing demand for food assistance in the region.
Twice a week, The Hut connects with a small portion of these individuals, providing support that meets their immediate needs. As one pantry member shared:
How Can You Help?
Your donations can make a significant difference. The Hut is seeking non-perishable food items and essential supplies, including:
- Festive treats: mince pies, puddings, special snacks
- Breakfast foods: cereals, Weet-Bix, rolled oats, muesli
- Pantry staples: pasta sauces, tinned tomatoes, pasta
- Essentials: long-life milk, instant coffee, tea bags, spreads (Vegemite, peanut butter, honey), tinned tuna, tinned vegetables, olive oil, vegetable oil
- Household basics: dishwashing liquid, toilet paper, washing powder
- Personal care items: shampoo, conditioner, body wash
