Library recycling hubs collect 1000kg of waste during this financial year!
Our Recycling Wall Hubs, located at the Stirling, Woodside, and Gumeracha libraries, have successfully collected over 1000kg of waste for recycling since the start of this financial year and we thank all the residents who have contributed to this major achievement!
This initiative, a collaboration with the Adelaide Hills Region Waste Management Authority, is in response to the community's desire for more convenient ways to divert waste from landfill by making recycling more accessible.
AHC collects these items in the Hubs because they are recyclable but cannot be placed in our yellow recycling bins.
The items accepted in the Hubs cannot go in our yellow recycling bins because they:
- can start fires inside collection trucks – eg lithium batteries
- will contaminate other recyclables – eg glass from a mobile phone is different to glass used for food jars and drink containers
- may damage machinery at the recycling sorting facility – ie cables getting wrapped around moving parts
If you have batteries, old mobile phones, small e-waste items, electrical cords and cables or X-rays, you can drop them off at any of the libraries, where they will be recycled through the Heathfield Resource Recovery Centre.
