New State Government drought support package

As many primary producers experience their driest season on record, the State Government is investing $18 million to assist farming communities affected by drought across South Australia.

The package has been informed by drought roundtables held across the state and by the SA Drought Advisory Group, which includes representation from key primary industries as well as state, federal and local government.

This support is available to all communities in South Australia.

GRANTS/REBATES:

On-farm drought infrastructure rebate scheme

Primary producers can apply for rebates of up to 75% (to a maximum of $5,000 excluding GST) for on-farm drought infrastructure that assists in managing drought conditions and strengthening preparedness.

Eligible projects will include water infrastructure updates, water, grain and fodder storage, stock containment feeding, fencing, soil moisture monitors, weather stations, and other farm improvements.

Apply for an on-farm drought infrastructure rebate now.

Please note: if you’ve already submitted an ‘expression of interest’, you now need to submit a full application to receive your rebate.

‘Connecting Communities’ events grants

Eligible groups can apply for grants of up to $5,000 (excluding GST) to host community events that foster social connections and provide support during these challenging times.

This can include support for mental health-related training opportunities for their communities.

Eligible groups include industry groups, community groups, not-for-profits, local government and other incorporated groups.

Apply for a Connecting Communities events grant now.

Family and Business Mentors

The support package also includes extra funding for PIRSA's Family and Business (FaB) Mentors – a free, independent and confidential service who can provide a listening ear when things get tough.

FaB mentors are located across the state in regional areas and are available to help primary producers identify assistance specific to their situations.

Ongoing hardship support

This new drought support package is on top of a range of ongoing support programs that are available based on need, no matter what type of hardship primary producers are experiencing:

Visit PIRSA’s drought webpage to learn more and download the ‘SA Assistance guide for primary producers’.

If you have any questions about the programs above, you’re welcome to contact PIRSA.drought@sa.gov.au or call the Recovery Hotline on 1800 931 314.
