Santos Festival of Cycling 2022 a huge success
The Adelaide Hills has again played host to the hugely popular Santos Festival of Cycling, the domestic event holding space for the Santos Tour Down Under during these fraught international times.
On Tuesday 25 January the Women's Be Safe Be Seen Stage 3 raced from Lobethal to Lobethal, a total of 86.9km, was won by Ruby Roseman-Gannon of BikeExchange-Jayco.
Thursday 27 January's Men's Ziptrak Stage 1 began with a race neutral start from Stirling Oval, with teams gathering in a snake-like formation prior to hitting the asphalt, before making their way to Lobethal. The 114.2km race was taken out by James Wheelan of Team Bridgelane, putting him in good stead for the beginning of the Men's competition.
Finally, for our district, the Men's Westpac Stage 2 took off from the Mount Lofty Summit for the first time ever, and riders were faced with a foggy start as they set out for Woodside. After 112.9km, it was Quick by name, quick by nature as Blake Quick of InForm Racing crossed the finish line first.
Council had a great time celebrating with those members of the community able to get out and see the colour and atmosphere of the race - we certainly know that many of you enjoyed the delicious bike wheel donuts made by the Lobethal Bakery!
Our district certainly put on the colour and flair fit for such an event, taking clean sweeps of the daily prizes for Best Dressed Town, Private Property, and Commercial Property on the three days of our hosted stages (overall winners TBC). Check out the full list of winners on our Santos Festival of Cycling webpage.
While that's the end of the Santos Festival of Cycling for our district, we are looking forward to donning those bike helmets again on Sunday 6 March for Discover, Play, Bikeway! We hope you'll join us!
