Stirling Coventry Library showcases inspiring First Nations artwork
Stirling Coventry Library is proudly displaying a stunning piece of First Nations artwork on the art wall near the DVDs.
This beautiful piece, titled ‘Community’, was created by Gabriel Stengle—a proud young Ngarrindjeri, Nurrunga, and Kaurna woman, and a devoted mother of four daughters who serve as her greatest inspiration.
About the Artwork: 'Community'
The artwork is a vibrant celebration of connection and unity. At its heart lies the central meeting place, symbolising LibrariesSA. Radiating outwards are journey lines and smaller meeting places, representing the many libraries throughout South Australia. These are encircled by numerous waterholes, each one standing for the diverse communities that make up our state.
Figures in the piece signify both the members of these communities and the dedicated staff within LibrariesSA. Blue water lines flow throughout the painting, representing South Australia’s rivers, lakes, and beaches—an integral part of the land’s identity. Finally, kangaroo tracks, a key motif in the painting, symbolise LibrariesSA’s commitment to progress, always moving forward with the community’s needs as a priority.
