The Hills celebrate a golden spring

As the world watched Australia achieve Olympic glory in Paris, the Hills celebrated its own gold medal display.

A magnificent burst of yellow wattle flowers is now heralding the arrival of spring. This brilliant splash of color reminds us all of the beauty that nature provides in our own backyard.

From left to right, three species of wattle native to the Hills region are in full bloom:

  • Acacia Myrtifolia (Myrtle Wattle): With its small, round flowers, this species adds a soft touch of gold to the landscape.
  • Acacia Pycnantha (Golden Wattle): As Australia's national floral emblem, it stands proud with clusters of fluffy, bright yellow blooms.
  • Acacia Acinacea (Gold Dust Wattle): Aptly named, this species sprinkles the landscape with its small, delicate flowers.

But the spectacle doesn’t end there. The Hills are also home to other stunning species:

  • Acacia Verticillata (Prickly Moses): Recognisable by its sharp foliage and pale yellow blooms, this species stands out in the wattle family.
  • Acacia Verniciflua (Varnish Wattle): Known for its shiny, varnished leaves, it adds a unique texture to the scenery.
  • Acacia Gunnii (Ploughshare Wattle): This species is known for its strikingly large, light green phyllodes and pale yellow flowers.

Whether you're a local or just visiting, now is the perfect time to experience the natural beauty of the Hills. Enjoy the vibrant golds and yellows that make this region truly special.
