Homelessness services

Homeless Connect SA provides a 24/7 telephone service for anyone in South Australia who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Phone 1800 003 308 - available anytime as a free call to help you find information and a direct referral into homelessness services.

The Toward Home Alliance provides supports and services to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the Adelaide Hills. Services include emergency accommodation, case management, and outreach support to individuals and families sleeping rough. Phone Toward Home services on 1800 809 273, 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Outside of these hours or areas, phone Homeless Connect SA on 1800 003 308.

What to do if you see someone sleeping rough in the Adelaide Hills area

If you are aware of someone sleeping rough in the Adelaide Hills area (on the street, in a park, out the front of a building), you can make sure they know the number for Homeless Connect SA (1800 003 308). If the person does not have access to a phone, you can contact Homeless Connect SA on their behalf. Note: Homeless Connect SA does not provide an outreach service.

You can also contact Toward Home services on 1800 809 273 (9am-5pm, Monday-Friday) to make a referral to their local outreach team.

If the person does not look well, call an ambulance on 000.

Homeless Connect SA and the Toward Home Alliance are the two main services that Council staff contact to refer someone who may be sleeping rough in the Adelaide Hills area.

Local food relief services

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, working with frontline charities to get meals out to those who could use a hand. If you require food relief, visit the Find Food page to find food relief services in the Adelaide Hills area, or contact Foodbank SA: phone 08 8351 1136 or email reception@foodbanksa.org.au

Your local community centres offer community lunches at different times during the month. Some may also offer a free food pantry - food and groceries to people living in the Adelaide Hills who are experiencing financial hardship. Financial assistance

If you're having problems with debt, you can phone the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 for financial counselling support.

If you're needing advice or assistance with managing the cost of living or budgeting, you can phone the Affordable SA Helpline on 1800 025 539 for information, advice and referrals to appropriate services. Available Monday to Thursdays between 9.30am and 8pm, and Fridays between 9.30am and 4.30pm (except Public Holidays).

Good Shepherd's No Interest Loans (NILs) are a safe and affordable way to pay for essentials (loans up to $2,000) and for items like bond and rent in advance, and if you’ve been affected by a natural disaster (loans up to $3,000). No Interest Loans in partnership with not-for-profit community organisations across Australia. To find your nearest NILs provider, visit the NILS Provider Finder or call 13 64 57 (Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm AEST).
