Khoeun — library volunteer
Growing up poor in Cambodia meant an 8km walk to school and times when there wasn't enough food to go around for him and his siblings.
But Khouen's mother was always helping those who needed it, even if it meant her own kids went without. Those days taught Khoeun about resilience, generosity and community.
"My mother is very old now and back in the village everyone looks after her with food and support — just like she used to do."
Volunteering in the library is Khouen's way of connecting with his community while the kids are at school and his wife is working full time.
"My wife is from Crafers and she came to the library as a child - and our children have always loved the library too, so I think it is a good place to volunteer."
As a stay at home dad Khoeun has plenty on his plate, but a few hours in the library while the kids are at school is his way of giving back to, and connecting with, his local community.
