Information and briefing sessions provide a valuable opportunity for Council Members to become better informed on issues and seek further clarification in order to enhance their decision making process.
Sessions should not be used or be seen to be used as a replacement for full debate and decision-making at Council meetings or Council Committee meetings.
Open and transparent Council meetings and Council Committee meetings underpin representative democracy and ensure public confidence in Council's decision-making processes.
How information and briefing sessions are conducted
An information or briefing session is conducted by or on behalf of the Council or CEO for members of Council or committees. The sessions involve discussion of a matter that is, or is intended to be, part of the agenda for a formal council or committee meeting.
Sessions are chaired by the CEO or a senior officer and formal minutes are not recorded.
Council Information or Briefing Sessions are governed by an Information or Briefing Session Policy.
Who can attend?
Unless a specific exemption applies, these sessions are open and members of the public are welcome to attend, unless an item is to be discussed in confidence, however they generally will not be provided with the opportunity to participate in the discussion or to address the Council Members present.
Sessions commence at 6.30pm (or as otherwise advised) — please refer to upcoming meetings below.
Sessions held at Woodside on the first Monday of the month, the first ten minutes will be an opportunity for members of the public to address the Council Members.
