** This year the Field of Crosses in Gumeracha will be set up in an open rectangle with the large cross and the flags of nations where Australia's Defence Personnel are buried in the centre. A named cross will be in front of the large cross, named for Pilot Officer Eldred (Ted) Quinn, a Forreston local who was the last RAAF death in WW2 prior to operations against the Japanese ceasing.
P/O Quinn was killed in action on 9 August 1945, Hiroshima & Nagasaki were bombed on 6 & 9 August and the Japanese formally surrendered on 15 August. There will also be a plaque on the cross for the 39,657 Australians who died in WW2.
Our Address will be a biography about P/O Quinn which was written by a relative, Zoe Bennett, a year 10 student at the time who won the Premiers ANZAC Spirit prize in 2023.
