Talk about eating from nature's top shelf; there are a number of ways to indulge in your love of world-class food and fresh produce in our region. Pick the sweetest fruit with your own hands in cherry, apple and fig orchards, and find plentiful pickings at farm gates and farmers markets.

You will also find yourself enjoying seasonal menus that match the changing landscape — bright and fresh in spring, long and lazy in summer, colourful and rich in autumn, and snug and warm in winter.

We host a gluttony of vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. Discover what happens behind the wines as you meet the winemakers at more than 50 cellar doors who draw inspiration from the landscape, crafting cool climate wines with soul and a sense of place.

Alternatively join the locals at hip and historic hotels, with beer gardens in summer and cosy fireside nooks in winter. Visit local breweries for a tasting paddle of craft beer, or cideries to sample 'autumn in a glass' with the people who also grow the apples and pears.

Artisans and artists have always flourished in the Adelaide Hills, inspired by the heritage and seasonal rhythm of the ranges.

Discover 'dreams carved in stone' by international and local sculptors on the Hills Sculpture Trail, or head north and discover the Community Mosaic Couch Trail that commemorates the resilience of communities affected by the 2015 Sampson Flat Bushfire.

Explore the rich and valued heritage reflected in stone buildings from an earlier era, streetscapes and farming patterns reflecting the cultural traditions of early migrants, and museums that preserve and cherish irreplaceable collections.

Stroll the main streets of nearly 20 towns and villages lined with shops, galleries, studios, cafes and pubs, then wind your way to your next stop keeping an eye out for koalas lazing in eucalypts and kangaroos feasting in the dusk.

Garden and plant lovers can enjoy the four distinct seasons with a profusion of bulbs and wildflowers in spring, lush fern valleys offering escape from the heat of summer, amazing foliage colours in autumn, and stunning camellias in winter. The great outdoors is just minutes from the city, but a world away.
