Age Friendly Community Strategic Plan
To make the Hills an even better place to grow older, Council's Age Friendly Community Strategic Plan was adopted in October 2017 and provides the strategic directions to support an age-friendly community and builds on Council’s existing strategies that support wellbeing.
The Age Friendly Community Strategic Plan has four goals to support older people to live a fulfilling life in the Adelaide Hills:
- A range of housing in well serviced townships supports people to age in the Adelaide
Hills - Our places and spaces are safe, accessible and welcoming
- Our residents are well informed and well-resourced as they age
- Older people make valued contributions to community life.

Hills Home and Community Support
At Adelaide Hills Council we support eligible older residents to maintain their independence in their home and within their community.
Assistance may be provided by staff, contractors or volunteers while services are funded by Council, State and Federal Governments, and client contributions from residents who are receiving services.
Access to services
Residents can contact the Hills Home and Community Support team to discuss how to access in-home support (at this time staff will further explain the requirement for all prospective clients over the age of 65 years to contact the Federal Government's My Aged Care in the first instance).
Services in high demand will be provided first to residents with the greatest need and there may be a waiting list for services. A financial contribution is required for all services and will be discussed at time of referral.
Types of services the Hills Home and Community Support program coordinates (subject to availability):
- Positive Ageing Centre activities and programs
- Social outings and events
- Domestic assistance / spring cleaning
- Garden tidies and gutter cleaning
- Minor home maintenance
- Transport for shopping via community buses.
Please note that due to funding restrictions some consumers with complex needs may be referred to other more appropriate services within the hills region.
Community groups
Seniors may also be interested in one of more than 700 active community groups. Often our community facilities play host to many of these community groups, from friends and special interest groups, to training groups and many more.
Find out about these and our many other community groups at the link below.
