Mental Health Awareness Session

For all community aged 12+

Mental health awareness is crucial in breaking down barriers, reducing stigma, promoting early intervention, and fostering a supportive environment for individuals experiencing mental health challenges. It plays a pivotal role in creating a society that values and prioritises mental wellbeing.

This session will provide an overview of mental health awareness along with the skills to assist and identify the early warning signs of a mental health problem. The approach is vitally important to be able to use appropriate language; to look at the use of open and closed questions and how to support someone who may be experiencing a mental health problem.

This session will cover:

  • What is Mental Health and Mental Illness
  • How common is Mental Illness in young people.
  • Depression – What is it and what are the signs.
  • Anxiety – What is it and what are the symptoms.
  • Non-Suicidal Self Injury and what is NSSI and why
  • Eating disorders – what is it and what are the signs?
  • Know the five signs.
  • How to have a conversation
  • Ten steps to positive mental health and wellbeing
