Nestled in the charming, century-old village of Lenswood, this park is the perfect picnic stop during your Adelaide Hills adventure. With its shady groves, sunny slopes, and tranquil atmosphere, it’s an idyllic place to relax and unwind.
In winter, a gentle stream meanders through the valley, inviting you to cross a quaint bridge and explore further. Follow the heritage trail, where life-size steel silhouettes and markers tell the rich history of this important agricultural area. The short, easy walk offers a glimpse into the past while immersing you in the beauty of the present.
A Glimpse Into Lenswood’s History
Lenswood wasn’t always known by this name, it was originally called Jerry’s Flat. Settlers first farmed the flat creekside pockets for vegetables and berries. Later, the slopes were cleared for apple orchards, turning the area into one of South Australia’s premier apple-growing regions. The Lenswood Co-op Cold Store, opened in 1934, remains a testament to this legacy.
Heritage Trail
To celebrate the town’s centenary, the local community created 10 life-size steel silhouettes that honor the pioneers who shaped the district. These silhouettes, depicting indigenous people, gold panners, pioneer women, wattle strippers, and more, are accompanied by plaques and QR codes for those eager to delve deeper into Lenswood’s story.
